Maegan received a clean bill of health on her recent checkup.  She and Tosha, her mother, returned to Dallas for the first complete checkup since Maegan finished her chemotherapy approximately three months ago.  This was a very big hurtle on the road to complete recovery.

Maegan's hair has started growing back.  It is a dark brunette color and resembles a tomboy or butch cut.  She started attending Our Lady of Fatima Kindergarten this past week.  She is a little behind the other children but it is hoped she catches up sufficiently to start the first grade next year right on time with her contemporaries.  I believe she will.  Her experiences of the last year have matured her way beyond her years.

Kathleen and I are keeping Maegan and her brother, Tyler, for a few days which has allowed her mother and father to take a well deserved break on a cruise to the Yucatan Peninsular.  I had the pleasure of bringing them both to school a few times this week.  It was really a happy sight seeing both of them in their little school uniforms walking side by side.

I want to thank all of you for your prayers and thoughts over the course of the last year or so.  I know you have made a difference.

Oct 09 2006     Maegan Update

Maegan has completed her year long chemotherapy treatments and the results from her MRI are CANCER FREE  The "access port" has been removed.  Maegan still needs our support as the monthly screenings will continue for the next 3-6 months.

TeAm Enterprise is a distributed computing mini-team associated with TeAm Anandtech .  We are a group of people who has decided to band together to improve things through Distributed Computing.  TeAm Enterprise recently completed the Seti Classic project where we demonstrated that we are a force to be reckoned with in the DC world.  Our current focus is Rosetta@Home running on the BOINC platform.

ImageRosetta@home is a scientific research project that uses internet-connected computers to predict and design protein structures, and protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions. Our goal is to develop methods that accurately predict and design protein structures and complexes, an endeavor that may ultimately help researchers develop cures for human diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Cancer, Malaria, and Alzheimer's  Disease Related Research).

In order to do this, we need your help. We believe that we are getting closer to accurately predicting and designing protein structures and protein complexes, one of the holy grails of computational biology. But in order to prove this, we require an enormous amount of computing resources, an amount greater than the world's largest super computers. This is only achievable through a collective effort from volunteers like you. By simply running the Rosetta@home program on you computer when it is idle and not in use, you will help speed up and extend our research in ways we couldn't possibly attempt without your help. You will also be helping our efforts at designing new proteins to fight major diseases.

Meet Maegan, TeAm Enterprise’s youngest cruncher.  Maegan, only 4 years old, has been diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma cancer.

maegan

She has undergone two separate surgeries (the second of which lasted over six hours).  Maegan is currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy treatments at the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas.  When the month long radiation treatments in Dallas are done, she will continue to have chemotherapy for 10 more months alternately at the Nemours Children’s Clinic in Pensacola and the Children’s Hospital of Dallas.  She is a very beautiful, brave and resilient little girl.

TeAm Enterprise has dedicated itself to the Rosetta@Home project in the hopes that some day children like Maegan won't have to face radiation and chemo treatments.  We hope that with this work researchers will be able to develop cures for HIV/AIDS, Cancer, Malaria, and Alzheimer’s.
